The Georgia Senate race matched Jon Ossoff, the Democratic incumbent, against Mike Collins, the Republican U.S. representative.
Georgia is considered a competitive, closely divided state. Democrats won its presidential vote in 2020 by a very narrow margin, and Republicans carried it in 2024, so statewide races often come down to small margins.
Georgia law requires a candidate to win a majority (more than 50%) in a general election. If no one does, the top two candidates advance to a runoff, usually held about four weeks later. Check the Georgia Secretary of State for the date if that applies.
The Texas U.S. Senate race, between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton, had not been called at last check. Check AP for the latest.

The Associated Press counts votes and declares winners when a race is no longer in doubt. Its calls are used by most major news outlets. A "call" is not an official result. Official results are certified by state election officials later, and calls can occasionally be taken back if the count changes.
Polls close at different times across the country. In Georgia, polls close at 7 p.m. ET. Close races can take hours or days to call, and states count mail-in and provisional ballots at different speeds. Early results often change as more votes are counted.
Early returns can favor one party depending on which votes are counted first, such as early in-person votes, mail ballots or Election Day votes. Wait for AP to call a race before treating a result as final.
If you have questions about voting in future elections, check your state's official election website. Voting rules, deadlines and polling places vary by state.
