Claude Duet is Anthropic’s new proactive AI agent that sends morning briefs, works in the cloud, and asks before it acts. Here’s what it does, who can use it, the waitlist, and how it compares to OpenAI Dots and Meta Muse.

On October 21, 2026, Anthropic announced Claude Duet, a new AI agent that doesn't wait for you to open a chat. Instead, it reaches out with what needs your attention, completes tasks, and keeps working after you put your phone down. It is currently a research preview with access by waitlist.
Claude Duet is a standalone Claude experience described by Anthropic as a research preview of Claude that you message the way you'd message a person. It is a proactive agent, which means it monitors your connected apps, spots what needs your attention, and messages you first.
In Anthropic's words, it "comes to you with what needs your attention, completes tasks you ask of it, keeps working when you step away, and checks with you before it acts on your behalf."
Anthropic says it built Duet for professionals and small business owners with more on their plates than they can track. The company also says that because Duet is designed mainly for the workplace, personal errands such as booking tickets are not "quite as strong."
Duet is built on Claude Opus 5.5. Anthropic says it chose this model because the product depends on judgment across several stages, such as spotting relevant events, estimating urgency, choosing tools, and deciding when to involve the user.

Anthropic has not announced a separate price. Duet shares your plan's usage limits with the rest of Claude, and its background checks count toward those limits. Larger tasks, such as building a financial model, use more of your allowance.
Anthropic says Duet:
Anthropic also warns that Duet is early and "might misread a thread or miscalibrate what's urgent." Review what it drafts or plans to do before approving.
Claude Duet joins a new category of "always-on" agents. Press coverage describes it as Anthropic's answer to Meta's Muse and OpenAI's Dots. All three are proactive agents that reach out before you ask. Based on reporting so far, what stands out about Duet is that it:
Wait for independent hands-on reviews before comparing quality, because the products are all brand new.
